Capital One just refreshed the Venture Rewards offer, and it's the same 75,000-mile bonus we've seen before — now with a $300 travel credit stapled on top. That credit applies to hotels and vacation rentals booked through the Capital One Travel portal. Do the math: if you actually use the credit, you're effectively paying negative $205 for the first year while pocketing 75K miles.
Those miles are worth roughly $750 as a straight cash-back redemption at 1 cent each. Transfer them to airline partners and you can squeeze more — think 60K miles for a one-way business class ticket to Europe on Air France or Virgin Atlantic. Not bad for a card that costs less than a nice dinner for two.
Here's the catch: the Venture X exists. For $395 annually, you get 10K more miles on the current welcome offer (85K vs 75K), a $300 annual travel credit that renews every year, 10K anniversary miles, Priority Pass lounge access, and 10x miles on hotels/rental cars through the portal. The math only favors the Venture Rewards if you genuinely won't use the X's perks enough to justify the $300 fee difference.
If you're under 5/24 and don't have either card, the Venture X is the better play. Full stop. But if you're over 5/24, or you're allergic to premium fees, or you just want a simple flat-rate earner with a low barrier to entry — this Venture Rewards offer is perfectly respectable. The $300 credit is easy to use if you book even one domestic hotel stay through their portal.
Just don't expect this to last forever. Capital One rotates these offers quarterly. No published expiration date, but "currently available" in points-and-points speak usually means "until we change our minds."
