Chase Cuts Hyatt Transfer Ratio for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred to 4:3

Chase just announced that the sweet 1:1 bridge between Ultimate Rewards and World of Hyatt is getting a makeover. If you were counting on a Sapphire Preferred or Ink Business Preferred to turn every point into a Hyatt night, you’ll now need a few more points to get there.

What the new math looks like

The transfer ratio shifts from a straight 1:1 swap to 4 Ultimate Rewards points for every 3 Hyatt points – that’s a 25% drop in value per point. In plain terms, a 60,000‑point transfer that used to land you a 60,000‑point Hyatt award will now only give you 45,000 Hyatt points.

Who’s hit and who’s safe

The change applies to the Sapphire Preferred, Ink Business Preferred, Ink Plus, and Corporate Flex cards. Both the Sapphire Reserve and Sapphire Reserve for Business remain untouched, keeping the 1:1 transfer ratio.

When does it kick in?

For anyone who applies on or after June 15 2026, the new 4:3 ratio is live the moment the card ships. Existing cardholders keep the old 1:1 rate until October 1 2026, after which any new transfers will follow the 4:3 rule.

Bottom line

This is a clear downgrade for the Preferred‑tier cards. If Hyatt points are a core part of your strategy, the Reserve cards suddenly look a lot more attractive, while the Preferred and Ink Business cards lose some of their appeal.

Chase Ink Business Preferred

Chase · business · $95
Welcome bonus100,000 UR points after $8,000 spend in 3 months
Top earnings1x Dining · 1x Groceries
Annual fee$95

The Ink Business Preferred might be the best-kept secret in the Chase lineup. For $95 a year, you get 3x on advertising, shipping, internet, phone, and travel up to $150,000 — categories where most businesses spend heavily without thinking about rewards. Same transfer partners as the Sapphire cards, a 100,000-point welcome bonus, and phone protection worth more than the annual fee. If you have a business — even a side hustle — and you don't have this card, you're leaving serious points on the table.

Annual fee$95

The CSP is still the best entry point into transferable points — and it's not close at $95. You get the same 14+ transfer partners as the Reserve (including Hyatt, which is worth the card alone), a solid 3x on dining, and a 10% anniversary points boost that quietly rewards you for sticking around. Effectively $45 after the hotel credit. If you travel even a couple times a year and want your spending to fund real trips, start here.

Scout's Take

The devaluation of the Ultimate Rewards-to-Hyatt transfer ratio for Sapphire Preferred and Ink Business Preferred cards to 4:3 is a significant blow, making these cards less appealing for those who rely heavily on Hyatt points, and potentially making the Reserve cards a more attractive option. Existing cardholders should consider transferring points before October 1, 2026, to maximize their value under the current 1:1 ratio.
